I am delighted to welcome you to the Medical/ Surgical Nursing department on behalf the faculty and staff. The Medical/ Surgical Nursing department is one of the six departments that form the Faculty of Nursing. It is a core department of nursing faculty that is responsible for the teaching and supervision of all adult nursing courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The department provides students centered teaching and learning in conducive atmosphere for hands on experience that helps the students to gain confidence in their nursing knowledge, skills and attitudinal practice. Scope of practice in medical /surgical nursing is evidence based in terms of procedural aspects and also the patient care. The department also ensures that high standards are maintained during training and practice while observing professional ethics of conduct. The courses taught in this department at undergraduate and postgraduate levels include foundation of Professional Nursing (I and II), Nursing care of Adults (I and II), Physical Heath Assessment, Advanced Health Assessment, and Medical Surgical Nursing (I and II). To empower professional nurses in medical surgical field who are creative and able to apply knowledge, skills and evidence based research to promote holistic adult care

Objectives

  • To ensure that the students acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in medical surgical nursing that emphasize the delivery of holistic adult nursing care.
  • To develop students' ability to identify current concepts and trends related to various aspects of nursing management of clients with acute and chronic diseases in different medical surgical nursing specialties.
  • To develop students' ability to acquire knowledge and skills of basic and advanced medical surgical procedures in clinical settings.
  • To develop students' skills in meeting the basic needs of adult clients and families.
  • To provide safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient and equitable care.
  • To adhere to national and international standards for nursing education and practice.
  • To apply evidence based practice to improve quality of adult care.
